Family fun near Dunwich this half term

Dunwich has something for everyone, the parents, the children and the dogs. We are now in that time of year where the weather is so unpredictable, making it seem impossible to find things to do that all the family will enjoy. Therefore, we are going to share The Ship’s 5 favourite places to visit near Dunwich that are perfect come rain or shine, giving you plenty to do this half term.

1. Southwold Pier
(8.7 miles from Dunwich)
Southwold pier is a popular attraction to visit on the Suffolk Coast. The pier is decked out across the sea in the coastal town of Southworld. There is something for everyone here, there is so many things to do such as shows, an arcade and shops, making it an enjoyable family day out.

2. Walberswick beach
(3 miles from Dunwich)
If you’re looking for somewhere a little quieter, then Walberswick beach is the place for you. The beach is backed with sandy dunes and beautiful scenery, from here you can walk up to Walberswick Nature Reserve where you will find a mix of marsh and heathland. So put on your wellies and enjoy nature at its best. Walberswick beach is also a great place to go crabbing, the best spot is in the waterways just behind the beach. This beach is also dog-friendly!

3. Orford Castle
(18 miles from Dunwich)
Discover one of England’s most complete and unusual keeps. At the castle you are able to explore from the basement, through the lower and upper halls to the roof where you will be able to see the wonderful views seaward to Orford Ness. Around the rooms you will find a maze of passages that leads to the chapel, kitchen and other chambers.

4. Rendlesham Forest

Rendlesham Forest is an exciting day out for children to be adventurous. This is a great place for walking and cycling and hidden just a short walk into the woods, among the trees, is a tube slide, obstacle course, swings, zip-line and much more. It has even been said that there is a spooky UFO trail to explore. This is a perfect day this half term for children who love to explore.

5. Africa Alive
(13 miles from Dunwich)
At Africa Alive you will be able to discover lions, giraffes, meerkats, hunting dogs and many more animals from the African continent. This is an opportunity for children to explore the sights and sounds of Africa. This is the ideal family day out where everyone can join in the fun.
